The best track-and-field athletes in the world on Polytan surfaces
These indoor athletics meetings are among the absolute highlights of the year – ISTAF INDOOR Düsseldorf and ISTAF INDOOR Berlin. On 4th February 2024, and again on the 23rd, thousands of fans will gather there to celebrate the crème de la crème of the international athletics scene. The big draw: at no other athletics tournament do spectators get as close to the athletes as they do here.
The world’s best track-and-field athletes, including world record holders and Olympic medallists, will vie for victory on the legendary “blue track”. The mobile synthetic sports surface from Polytan is 85 m long and 7.32 m wide, and stands out in the same shade of “Hertha blue” as the running circuit at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
Both halls feature a Rekortan M Indoor track, a poured in-situ surface, in which the granules are sprinkled with a visible tip, making it especially suitable for spikes. In addition, the surface is extremely fast and offers high cushioning and excellent sport medical properties. Because Rekortan M Indoor satisfies the strict emission limit values for such spaces, it is the perfect choice for indoor athletics facilities. And it even scores highly in terms of sustainability, as after the events, the substrate of the track will be disassembled into pieces and stored, before going on to enable new records at future ISTAF INDOOR events.
The sprinting track is surrounded by approx. 1,500 m2 SYNLawn synthetic turf from Polytan’s sister company SYNLawn in the USA. The newly developed fibres are made of biobased raw materials and post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, thus sharing the principles of Polytan’s Green Technology.
A special highlight of the two events was the appearance of Laura Raquel Müller, who recently won the women’s long jump competition at the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting of LG Olympia Dortmund. The outstanding young athlete delivered this performance on the Polytan surface Rekortan PUR and also serves as a Polytan brand ambassador.
