Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium has seen plenty of exciting competitions since it was completed in 1912: the Olympic Games in the same year it opened, the equestrian events of the 1956 Olympics and, until 2013, countless matches of the famous Djurgårdens IF football club. It also marks the finishing point for the Stockholm marathon every year and has since 2010 been one of the 14 venues for the IAAF Diamond League in athletics. Since the summer of 2014, the stadium has boasted not only 83 world records, but also a new Polytan circular running track. The IAAF-certified Polytan PUR synthetic surface – which has already proven its worth in many international competitions – was installed. The circular track is kept in classic red, with selected areas of the sectors setting it off in blue. The structured surface makes the sports surface particularly suitable for spiked running shoes and thus provides ideal competition conditions.
