Each year, the AOK Traditionsmasters tournament brings football “oldies” together in Berlin for a very special “jamboree”. This year’s competition saw the two strongest teams, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, meet in the final, held on the Polytan synthetic turf that was specially laid in the Max Schmeling Hall for the tournament. The “works team” defeated the black and yellows 10-3.
For the first time the event was held over two days, bringing young and old together once more. The spectators in the 8,000-capacity hall, which was sold out at times, enjoyed plenty of football passion and a glut of goals. The teams in 2019 again featured some of the finest around, with FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Sparta Prague, three traditional European clubs, all taking part. The Polytan LigaTurf RS+ CoolPlus offered the ideal playing conditions, demonstrating yet again that synthetic turf can be the optimum sports surface for temporary indoor sports events as well.
