Poligras at Campo da Hockey Amsicora in Cagliari, Sardinia
At the very heart of Italian hockey
Sardinia’s capital and largest city is Cagliari. Even today, numerous buildings bear witness to Cagliari’s Phoenician and Roman past. The Parco Naturale Molentargius Saline situated just outside the city is one of Europe’s most important nesting sites for water birds, including flamingos. Fantastic beaches with turquoise waters nearby attract countless tourists to the region. But Cagliari also offers excellent sporting performances: football club Cagliari Calcio became Italian champions in 1970 – the biggest team success to date for the club, which is still in the first division. The club has brought forth numerous international players and coaches, including Giovanni Trapattoni
Cagliari is also one of the main centres of Italian hockey. In 2015, three clubs from the city were represented in the top division, led by Amsicora, whose men’s hockey team is by far the most successful team in Italy after winning 23 national championships. The women’s hockey team has won a total of 8 Italian championships to date. The club is based at the Società Ginnastica Amsicora sports association, which also has gymnastics and athletics teams in addition to hockey.
Hockey is played in the reconstructed Amsicora stadium, which we equipped with the Poligras unfilled turf system – still the standard for hockey turf today. Like all Polytan hockey turf products, this surface obviously meets all the strict requirements of the International Hockey Federation (IHF). Thanks to its dense, uniform surface, the rolling behaviour of the ball is not negatively affected by directional effects, enabling a fast, precise game
Special texturising techniques give Poligras its extraordinary volume and high durability. Despite its robustness, this turf system is particularly soft, pleasant to touch and provides a high level of safety. This is another reason why this surface can be used for both hockey and football at multi-purpose facilities.
