Deportivo Gelves: Right at the heart of Seville and yet completely autonomous
In footballing terms, Spain is considered a super power: World and European champions, and the UEFA Champions League would be unimaginable without Real Madrid, FC Barcelona or Atlético Madrid. And yet, another centre of Spanish football is sometimes overlooked: Seville. Two clubs based in Spain’s fourth largest city play in the Primera División league: Sevilla FC and Betis Sevilla. With six titles to their name, Sevilla FC are currently the record UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League winners, not to mention one of Spain’s most successful clubs internationally.
But that’s not all since there is also the Club Deportivo Gelves in the greater Seville area. Gelves is an autonomous municipality in the province of Seville with a good ten thousand inhabitants; while it is located in the middle of the metropolitan area of Seville, it is still considered independent. And in football-loving Spain, the municipality naturally has its own football club: Club Deportivo Gelves, which was founded in 1997. At the Campo de Fútbol pitch, the previously used but now worn synthetic turf has recently been replaced with our Polytan LigaTurf Legend Pro.
When it comes to performance, LigaTurf Legend Pro is the leading synthetic turf surface: its optimised filaments ensure the synthetic turf is brilliantly stable. As a result, it offers the perfect performance – particularly for football. Our specially developed filaments also guarantee almost identical ball rolling and playing characteristics to rival playing on natural grass. Visually, the blade width provides good coverage and – in combination with the BiColour design – a fresh and natural look to the pitch. The high wear resistance of the filaments has been proven in extensive laboratory tests and ensures maximum sustainability.
After evaluating the bids submitted, the Municipality of Gelves awarded the works to Sport Technical Multijuegos S.L. as part of a public tender. Works included removing the worn synthetic turf as well as separating sand and rubber, repairing the existing layer on which the new artificial turf was laid – now with a cork infill – and installing several irrigation cannons and three covered benches. The extensive work was completed in only 45 days. The athletes who use these sports facilities on a daily basis have therefore not had to do without their playing and training area for too long, and instead have quickly come to enjoy the improved facilities, as Isabel Herrera, the mayor of Gelves, said when praising the works progress.
