The Spanish municipality of Alcobendas is located in the metropolitan region of Madrid, around 13 kilometres from the city centre, and is also one of the capital’s most affluent districts. Alcobendas is sadly known for the fact that the American singer Bing Crosby died here of a heart attack while playing golf. But otherwise, sport only makes positive headlines in the community: the women and men of the Balonmano Alcobendas club have both already played handball in the top Spanish league.
The Valdelasfuentes district is home to the Madrid City Football Academy, which was founded in 2023 and is a professional football academy that attracts young players from all over the world. The Valdelasfuentes sports centre is distributed throughout the area and includes numerous facilities such as football pitches, swimming pools and gyms, including five new high-quality synthetic turf football pitches. Among them is Campo de Fútbol Mario Suárez, named after Mario Suárez Mata, a former footballer from Alcobendas who played over 120 games for Atlético Madrid, the club with which he became Spanish champion and cup winner.
The pitch is also used by the club Rayo Ciudad Alcobendas CF. But most importantly, the players of the Madrid City Football Academy train here. They receive a solid football education at the Valdelasfuentes sports centre, where they also get the opportunity to play against top professional clubs such as Real Madrid, Atlético and Sevilla.
