LigaTurf Cross at the Campo de Fútbol Municipal “Santa Ana” in Utebo, Spain
The ideal solution for busy football pitches
Utebo, a town of around 20,000 inhabitants, is not far from the provincial capital, Zaragoza, in the Ebro valley. Since the late 20th century, the town has become a suburb of Zaragoza in economic terms.
Utebo Fútbol Club plays in the Segunda Federación (Real Federación Española de Fútbol), the fourth-highest division in the Spanish football league system. The team plays it home games at the Campo de Fútbol Municipal “Santa Ana”. As well as a synthetic turf pitch, the sports complex includes a press room, a physiotherapy room and a sports hall. The Municipal de Santa Ana has a capacity of 1,500 spectator seats, 500 of which are in the roofed stands. Next to the main playing field, there is an additional miniature playing field.
We fitted the main pitch with Elastic Lyer of 25mm and Polytan synthetic turf at the beginning of 2024 . The chosen surface was our LigaTurf Cross. This filled synthetic turf system combines smooth and textured filaments, combining the benefits of both turf types to create a robust football turf. LigaTurf Cross is the perfect solution for the busy training facilities of amateur and professional clubs alike. And that is exactly what Utebo needs. Good news: this year (2024), the football club will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and the club’s youth academy now has 26 teams covering all age groups.
In the meantime, we have further developed our LigaTurf Cross turf and adapted it to new requirements. It is now available in multiple environmentally friendly variants. These include LigaTurf Cross R, which contains filaments made of recycled materials, and LigaTurf Cross GT zero, the world’s first carbon-neutral synthetic football turf. It is primarily based on sustainable, organic PE raw materials, sourced from non-recyclable sugar cane.
The clear frontrunner in terms of Green Technology is our LigaTurf Cross GTR – GTR stands for the sustainability and future viability of Polytan products and solutions. Because as well as renewable materials, LigaTurf Cross GTR now also contains recycled material, making it a low-maintenance, durable synthetic turf for training and sports facilities that elevates climate protection and sustainability to an unprecedented level in the world of synthetic turf systems.
