HC Tilburg arose from a merger between TMHC Tilburg and TMHC Forward and, with around 2,500 members, is one of the biggest hockey clubs in the Netherlands. The players have access to seven hockey pitches across the club’s whole site, two of which were renewed by Polytan between June and August 2016. The club’s management decided on the professional Poligras Mega Cool-Plus synthetic turf system for both refurbished pitches. On one field, an existing layer of asphalt now has a new 15mm elastic layer to provide for optimal shock absorbency, whilst on the other the turf is installed as standard on a compact 35 mm elastic layer. Polytan was awarded the contract by the club directly following previous inspections in Germany. For HC Tilburg, whose professional men’s first team plays at the highest level in the Netherlands, synthetic turf for hockey has been standard for decades: the first facility with synthetic filaments was installed by AstroTurf back in 1983. AstroTurf has been part of SportGroup Holding, to which Polytan also belongs, since August 2016.
