Optimal conditions for athletics in Forest Town
The south Bavarian municipality of Titisee-Neustadt – colloquially called Wälderstadt (Forest Town) – is known as a spa and winter sports centre. The Hochfirst Ski Jump is Germany’s biggest natural ski jump, and the local outdoor pool, swimming beach and high ropes course for climbing are popular attractions. The Jahn Stadium serves as a meeting place for the football teams and athletes from Neustadt Football Club 1911, Hölzlebruck Sports Club 1949 and the Neustadt Gymnastics Club 1847.
The stadium complex, nestled in the idyllic Black Forest landscape, includes a running circuit enclosing a football field, a synthetic turf pitch and an additional miniature playing field with synthetic turf.
In 2023, we were tasked with upgrading not only the entire six-lane track, but also the accompanying sprint sections and approach zones for the standard throwing and jumping events. The chosen surface was Rekortan M in brick red, which is also installed on the two semi-circles of the spectator stands. One of the two also features a basketball court.

The result is maximum acceleration and perfect shock absorption values. The EPDM granules interspersed in the wear layer are practically made for running shoes with spikes and enable extremely high acceleration. It offers increased elasticity and outstanding shock absorption that is valued by athletes and sports physicians alike.
Rekortan M also scores highly for environmental friendliness, as it is made of up to 49% recycled and renewable materials. This is yet another reason why Rekortan is one of the most highly certified track systems worldwide, with over 150 installations certified by World Athletics globally and counting.
We also installed the Polytan SMART timing system in the running surface – our sophisticated method for measuring and documenting training performance. The Polytan SMART system at the Jahn Stadium comprises timing gates in the two inner lanes of the running track, the middle lanes of the sprinting track and one of the long jump tracks. The athlete’s individual data is recorded using a wireless sensor weighing only 15 grams or a personal smartphone, and evaluated using the reliable diagnostics software from our partner Humotion. This makes it possible to test agility or jumping ability, assess endurance and analyse sprinting results, among other things. The system is ideal for performance diagnostics, be it for single athletes or an entire team, either in athletics or team sports.
