Laykold Advantage – Le Châtelard Academy near Montreux, Switzerland
At the highest level
Le Châtelard Academy is an international boarding school that offers a comprehensive education to girls aged 13 to 18. The impressive main building was built in the late 19th century as an elegant hotel in the style of the Belle Époque, which retains its original flair and charm to this day. It is situated above Montreaux by Lake Geneva, at an altitude of approx. 1,000 metres, surrounded by the Swiss Alps. The downright heavenly location provides the ideal framework for an education that offers pupils countless opportunities for personal development, entirely in the spirit of the school’s motto: “Become the best version of yourself”.
Of course, the building has been brought up to date with modern equipment. Alongside the actual classrooms, there are computer rooms, a school library, a cafeteria, a theatre and a Le Cordon Bleu cooking school. Painting and ceramic workshops and a photo lab round off all the school has to offer, while an aerobic fitness studio, fitness centre and a gymnasium provide opportunities for athletic activities. The facilities also include three tennis courts and a basketball court in a park that surrounds the school.
These four courts were renovated in 2022, bringing them up to the high level of the boarding school. To achieve this, they were fitted with our Laykold surface; the courts themselves in Light Blue, and the surrounding areas in Spring Green. The Laykold Advantage System consists of structured synthetic resin with high-quality pigments and special quartz sand. It offers a permanent cushion and outstanding shock absorption. Its proven quality, excellent playing characteristics and homogenous, even surface make Laykold an attractive option, especially for basketball and outdoor tennis courts.
That’s why Laykold is currently the leading sports surface for tennis events in countries such as the USA and Canada. Seven of the 12 most important hard-court tournaments are played on Laykold, including the U.S. Open. The surface is also environmentally friendly and free from asbestos, lead and mercury; it is extremely durable and UV-resistant and can be used in any weather. What’s more, Laykold Advantage is a cost-effective way to revive old playing surfaces on asphalt or concrete in order to extend the lifespan of a sports pitch or change its design.
