Rekortan PUR at Ratingen stadium
Qualifying for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest
Ratingen – in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region – lies in the heart of the transient area between the Lower Rhine lowlands and the Bergisches Land. There is no lack of sports facilities in this densely populated region, and Ratingen also has its own municipal stadium. It is located on the edge of the historic city centre and comprises a football pitch and athletics facilities. It is suitable as a venue for school or club competitions up to international competitions, and can hold up to 5,000 spectators. It is mainly used for school sport – the Friedrich-Ebert Realschule is right next door – and club sport. The TV Ratingen sports club has been in existence since 1865. The stadium is also home to Ratinger Spielvereinigung Germania 04/19, a football club steeped in history.
We renovated the athletics track at the Ratingen stadium in time for the Stadtwerke Ratingen all-around meet held in June 2023. This included the circular running track with integrated sprint track, as well as various throwing disciplines, whose tracks were designed with Rekortan PUR alternating between dark Hertha blue and light Skyblue. Rekortan PUR is our high-speed synthetic surface that offers top sporting performances – the combination of an elastic base layer and solid construction creates the ideal surface for setting leading times and records in top-class sport. The results are impressive: maximum acceleration and optimum shock absorption. Thanks to the interspersed EPDM granules in the wear layer, this waterproof sports surface is ideally suited for spiked running shoes and offers extremely high acceleration. The energy-boosting tread elasticity and high abrasion resistance make Rekortan PUR the perfect surface for meeting the requirements in Ratingen.
Of course, our leading surface was not chosen merely by chance – it was laid especially for the Stadtwerke Ratingen all-around meet. This particular meet has been one of the highlights in the national athletics calendar for many years. After all, when seeking opportunities to qualify for the World Championships in Budapest in August 2023, this all-around meet is considered a gold-standard meet on the World Athletics Combined Events Tour and therefore plays a key role – not only for Germany’s best all-rounders, but for the international elite, too. We are proud that several sportsmen and women have now secured their place at the World Championships in Budapest while performing on our surfaces, and wish them every success in Hungary.
