Sustainable peak performance: Modern sports facility in Reinickendorf, Berlin
On Reginhardstrasse in Reinickendorf, Berlin, a modern sports facility has been realised that offers a wide variety of possible uses.
At the centre of the facility is a high-quality synthetic turf pitch with LigaTurf Cross GTR, featuring lines for both American football and classic football. This innovative product from the “Green Technology” portfolio is highly sustainable: the filaments consist of biobased plastics, made of sugar cane sourced from agricultural waste, and recycled plastics (PCR). At least 20% of the filaments are made of recycled plastics, while the fibres consist of approx. 80% bio-based material. In addition, the energy used in its production is 100% green.
The playing field is enclosed by a running circuit, surfaced with high-performance Rekortan M in brick red. This tried-and-tested synthetic surface is designed for peak athletic performance and offers optimal conditions für professional athletes, ambitious amateurs, schools and popular sport with its elastic base layer and solid construction. The segments of the running track are designed for different jumping disciplines.
Additionally, the innermost running track and the middle sprinting track are fitted with the integrated Polytan SMART system. The digitalisation of sport is growing in importance and the SmarTracks diagnostic technology allows athletes and coaches to precisely analyse their performance in terms of speed, duration and power. Magnets installed in the track measure movement data, which is recorded by a sensor worn by the athlete and evaluated in a diagnostic software. This produces a detailed athletic profile, allowing athletes to tailor their training to their individual needs. At this facility, the system also contributes to the digitalisation of school sports, as sprint and endurance times can be automatically recorded and no longer need to be timed by hand.
Directly adjacent to the running track, there is also a new parkours. The fall protection surface PolyPlay FS GT is used in the segments of the running track and on the parkours. This fall protection not only fulfils the requirements of RAL GZ 943/3, but like the LigaTurf Cross GTR on the synthetic turf pitch, also comes from the Green Technology portfolio.
The water-permeable, granulated PolyPlay FS GT surface is also characterised by its low maintenance and cushioning effect that protects athletes from injury. Its high resistance to weather and decay ensures a long lifespan and low maintenance costs. The colour scheme for the facility in Berlin Reinickendorf is brick red with light blue accents.
The facility is used predominantly for school sports. Its main users are the nearby European Gymnasium Bertha-von-Suttner and Gustav Freytag High School. The modern infrastructure offers optimal conditions for students to develop their athletic abilities under professional conditions.
