Football stadia can have a variable history – and the same goes for their names. The SR-Bank Arena is better known to Norwegian fans as the Viking Stadion, having only been given its new name this year. This is where Norwegian football club Viking Stavanger has been playing its home matches since 2004. The stadium now features 16,300 covered seats and a range of technical refinements such as infrared radiators under the stadium roof to keep spectators warm.
Which has in fact been necessary in the past, because Viking Stavanger – although one of the most successful football clubs in Norway, with eight championship titles and five cup wins – has been through some pretty turbulent times in recent years. The low point was reached in 2018 with relegation to the second tier. Restructuring at management level soon brought success, however, and a return to the top flight is firmly on the cards.
The synthetic turf is our Ligaturf RS Pro II CoolPlus, which is filled with the Bionic Fibre infill granules and has the FIFA Quality RO certificate. In Stavanger it covers a total surface area of 7,992 m2. In addition to the stadium itself, a training pitch was equipped with our LigaTurf RS+ CoolPlus WCE just in April/May 2018.
