LigaTurf Cross Cool Plus in the Stade des Coteaux
On ground steeped in history
Saint-Cloud is a French commune with 30,000 inhabitants, situated approximately just 10 km west of central Paris. The town owes its name to Chlodoald, a grandchild of Chlodwig, the founder of France. Chlodoald renounced all claims to the throne to escape the glamorous but also dangerous life in the royal palace, and withdrew to a hill along the river Seine. He was proclaimed a saint following his death, and the hamlet rapidly transformed into a well-attended place of pilgrimage – today’s Saint-Cloud.
The local football stadium, the Stade des Coteaux, lies on the slopes overhanging the Seine and was given a comprehensive renovation in 2020. In the process, the old synthetic turf surface was removed and replaced with our LigaTurf Cross Cool Plus. This synthetic turf combines smooth filaments with textured ones, merging the advantages of both turf types to create the ideal football pitch in terms of look and feel, but also means reduced, simple maintenance. We now also offer LigaTurf Cross both with renewable (GT) and recycled fibres (R) – LigaTurf Cross GTR.
Besides the synthetic turf, the floodlight system was also replaced, as were the changing rooms and the more than 300-strong spectator stand. One feature in Saint-Cloud is the fact that the stadium was constructed on the roof of a two-storey car park with parking spaces for a total of around 400 cars. This required additional structural measures such as ball stop netting and sewage pipes. Since the stadium reopened in November 2020, ‘Football Club de Saint-Cloud’ and its roughly 10 teams have been playing their games here. There’s no doubting that Saint-Cloud is sports-mad – shown alone by the total of 26 sports clubs and another five football clubs besides FC Saint Cloud. So there’s plenty of competition!
