After a six-year break, the “Euroleague Basketball” was again held in Berlin in May 2016. The “Final Four” saw the four best teams battling it out for the European Men’s Championship. The Schule am Teltowkanal gained a new basketball court with a synthetic surface from Polytan as a result of this top sporting event. The transformation of the asphalt surface into a modern basketball court was funded by the sponsors Turkish Airlines Euroleague and Dogus Group as part of their “One-Team” and “Stay in the Game” development projects. The aim of these initiatives is to support disadvantaged children and young people at risk of social exclusion, which is why one of the basic requirements of the project was for the facility to be available to local youngsters outside school hours. The essential refurbishments included new hoops, a ball stop fence and areas of greenery, as well as the installation of the Polytan SE sport surface. The wear layer of the water-permeable synthetic surface with a smooth but non-slip covering is 15 mm thick in Berlin-Neukölln. It is composed of sky blue, dove blue and light grey EPDM granules, an extraordinary colour combination that visually underlines the sheer joy of sport.
