Green Technology made for spikes – the new track at Waldstadion Melsungen
The new athletics track at the Melsungen Waldstadion is breathing new life into one of the most historic sports facilities in North Hesse. The Melsunger Turngemeinde 1861 e.V. – a club with a history spanning over 160 years – now has access to a modern training and competition facility that provides optimal conditions for youngsters and ambitious athletes.
The new track will be enjoyed in particular by the many children and young people who regularly take part in the club’s child-friendly athletics training. Thanks to its continuous youth work, the club has already achieved several successes at state and national level.
The surface chosen for the Melsungen Forest Stadium was Rekortan GEL GT in brick red – a running track surface that meets all the requirements of World Athletics and can therefore be approved for international competitions. The innovative gel-based PU technology provides permanent shock absorption and joint-friendly cushioning. The in-situ installation results in a surface that guarantees the perfect conditions for training and competition.
The durable covering layer with EPDM granules is compatible with spikes, and thus suitable for top-level sports. Rekortan GEL GT is available in 12 colours and is part of Polytan’s Green Technology portfolio. The high-tech surface consists of around 60% renewable raw materials, thus combining ecological responsibility with peak athletic performance.
The new running circuit will benefit more than just the Melsenger athletics club: the neighbouring Radko Stöckl School will also use the new facility for PE lessons – a win for school sports in the region.
Another athletic highlight in the calendar is the Bartenwetzer fun run, which starts and finishes at the Waldstadion. As the oldest fun run in North Hesse and the official scoring run for the North Hesse Cup, the event will be elevated to a new level by the new running surface.
