Polytan LigaTurf Cross GTzero in Wildpark stadium
The first CO2-neutral football turf is now also in Baden-Württemberg
After almost four months of construction, the new Polytan synthetic turf pitch in the Wildpark stadium is now complete. What is so special? Polytan LigaTurf Cross GTzero is the first CO2-neutral football turf for elite and amateur sports. Karlsruher SC thus sets a highly visible example of environmental compatibility and sustainability.
The Wildpark stadium in Karlsruhe is the centre of a facility consisting of various sports and training grounds. Renovation work has been underway since November 2018 to create a football-only arena for around 35,000 spectators. A new synthetic turf pitch was created in an initial construction phase between June and October 2020. “With the KSC fan investment, our fans have made this first step possible,” said Michael Becker, thanking around 1,800 supporters. The pitch will be used by teams from the KSC GRENKE academy.
Garden designers and landscapers Becker GmbH from Zuzenhausen took on responsibility for the pitch construction. What is special about this synthetic turf is that its fibres are made from renewable raw materials. The new LigaTurf Cross GTzero from Polytan was installed – the world’s first CO2-neutral synthetic turf for football, with filaments comprising 80% bio-based fibre raw material (PE). LigaTurf Cross GTzero is suitable for professional training facilities, amateur and professional clubs, sports colleges and mu-nicipal sports facilities.
The CO2-neutral synthetic turf in the Wildpark location is a flagship project for the entire state, as it is the first of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. In ad-dition, the pitch was filled with quartz sand, so there are absolutely no microplastics from filled rubber granules.
