A hockey turf for all occasions: fast, accurate and sustainable
Field hockey is regarded as a particularly fair and elegant team sport, with a long and proud British tradition. The rules, still in place today, were established in 1875 in England, and the first national hockey association was established in London. Field hockey matches are fast and technically demanding, with body contact prohibited. Matches are played on a 91.50m-long and 50-55m-wide field with synthetic turf.
Modern synthetic turf for hockey has to be sustainable, precise and fast
No other type of ball sport is more closely linked to synthetic turf than hockey. This is mainly due to the fact that the dense surface structure of the turf carpet enables fast passing and precise ball control without distortion of direction. Artificial turf for hockey pitches is generally unfilled and has short, textured turf filaments. Synthetic hockey turf is therefore watered before every kick-off, to enable players to slide over the surface without risk of injury.
All Polytan hockey turfs meet the international specifications of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The patented Polytan CoolPlus function prevents excessive overheating of field hockey pitches. As part of the the Green Technology programme, which advocates environmentally friendly and sustainable sports flooring, Polytan provides hockey surface coverings that are manufactured from more than 60% organic-based plastic.
Products for Hockey
POLIGRAS Paris GT zero
High performance meets low environmental impact: Poligras Paris GT zero is the first ever climate-neutral synthetic hockey turf. The positive carbon footprint of Poligras Paris GT zero is due to filaments made of organically based raw materials and a recyclable polyurethane wear coat, the same properties that significantly reduce the weight of the turf and give it ideal playing properties.
POLIGRAS TEAMPLAY
Our Poligras TeamPlay opens up new dimensions in hockey. With over 1.25 million filaments per square metre and an extremely dense and uniform multidirectional surface, ball accuracy and speed are more precise and faster than ever before. Despite its soft surface, the water-based turf system is extremely durable. Thanks to CoolPlus technology, the turf does not overheat.
Poligras Superplay
Its certification for official FIH National competitions makes it an expert turf for professional hockey. Its soft touch and high resistance mean it’s just perfect for this sport. Special filaments guarantee properties that are a must for sand-filled hockey pitches in particular. As they are made from 100% PE, the filaments are both incredibly soft and durable.
LIGAGRASS PRO
Hockey is becoming increasingly popular, so it's great that the textured, artificial LigaGrass Pro football turf, the preferred turf of mini-pitches, school and training facilities, is also suitable as a field hockey surface covering. As a sand-filled variant, the synthetic turf is particularly hard wearing and robust, requiring minimal care and maintenance.
Polytan SMART
Polytan SMART for synthetic turf enables precise performance diagnostics for footballers, hockey players and rugby players, as well as for athletes of other types of grass sports. All essential parameters can be accurately measured and evaluated with the system, including agility tests. This is all taken care of thanks to the interaction of three components: magnetic barriers (timing gates) positioned in or on the artificial turf, hip belts with body sensors and analysis software via PC or app.
