Especially in team sports such as football, hockey, rugby, and many others, quick directional changes, rapid stops, and maximum acceleration are essential. Movements are directly captured with a powerful, lightweight sensor, and then analysed and evaluated by the diagnostics software. Results from the tests provide a comprehensive athletic profile that supports effective management of training and athlete workload. An athlete’s sprinting ability is of crucial importance in many sports, especially in competition. With Polytan SMART, every distance can be recorded depending on the placement of the timing gates. The diagnostics software not only provides you with precise time measurements, but also other important running parameters such as step length, number and frequency.
The Tapping Test is a method used to determine cyclic speed and is particularly effective in identifying "speed talents": The diagnostic sensor captures the tapping frequency, i.e., the number of ground contacts per second, measured in Hertz. The tapping performance depends on coordination ability and individual strength. The number of ground contacts is also determined over a period of 6 or 15 seconds.
Based on an athlete's jumping ability, conclusions can be drawn about the explosive strength of their leg muscles. Alongside other physical attributes such as endurance and strength, jumping power has an immediate impact on performance. Polytan SMART offers three standard jump variants – Drop Jump, Countermovement Jump, and Squat Jump.
The Three Cone Drill (3CD) is one of the most common agility tests in American football and is used in player evaluations at the NFL Combine. However, it is suitable for all sports requiring high agility, relatively short bursts of activity, and the ability to manoeuvre in tight spaces.
The Arrowhead Agility Test (AAT) is a simple yet effective test to assess an athlete's agility. Although it can be used for many team sports, it is most commonly applied in football.
The Illinois Agility Test (IAT) is used to test an athlete's agility, i.e., their ability to change direction quickly. The athlete should start in an upright position and manoeuvre through the course at maximum speed. The test must be conducted from both sides to fully assess the athlete's abilities.
The 5-10-5 Shuttle, also known as the Pro Agility Test, involves quick changes of direction in a linear plane and is typically used in football, American football, hockey, and many other sports.
The Custom Agility Test allows coaches and athletes to create their own tests. This can be done to tailor them as specifically as possible to the respective sport or to utilise well-known tests (e.g., 10-5 Test) that are not integrated into SmarTracks Diagnostics. Certain guidelines must be followed to create and conduct such tests.
