Climate change presents immense challenges for sports clubs. Extreme weather conditions such as dry summers and rainy winters make the maintenance and use of natural grass pitches increasingly difficult. In summer, fields dry out quickly, increasing the risk of injuries and significantly raising maintenance efforts.
In the winter months, heavy rainfall often turns the fields muddy and unplayable, leading to frequent match cancellations. Facing these challenges, more and more clubs are turning to artificial turf as a sustainable alternative. Polytan offers innovative artificial turf systems that are not only low-maintenance and water-saving but also meet the latest environmental standards. Artificial turf requires no mowing, fertilizing, or watering, leading to significant cost savings in the long term. Additionally, artificial turf fields are weather-resistant and can be used even in rainy conditions without damaging the playing surface. Modern artificial turf systems are made from renewable or recycled materials and utilize innovative infill materials such as cork and sand that avoid microplastics and reduce heat development.
A good example of successful artificial turf implementation is SV Wenzenbach. Due to the challenges in maintaining natural grass pitches, the club decided to switch to artificial turf. This decision enables the club to provide optimal playing conditions year-round while conserving the environment. Likewise, TSV Neuried opted for a sustainable artificial turf of the latest generation, Polytan's LigaTurf Cross GT zero.
Polytan's artificial turf fields are fully recyclable and have a long lifespan. After approximately 12-15 years of use, our artificial turf is 100% recycled via FormaTurf, giving it a new life as products such as nailorboards or boundary boards. This makes artificial turf a sustainable and economically viable solution for sports clubs facing the challenges of climate change. With Polytan's innovative solutions, clubs can ensure their playing fields remain usable throughout the year without harming the environment.
